A DIRECTOR CALLED ROB

Cage and Krafta

Back before the world went mad I made a film called John Cage's Musicircus.
It was a short record of the phantasmagorical event masterminded by composer extraordinaire Stephen Montague where 170 performers took part in a centennial celebration of John Cage at the London Coliseum.
It's now been selected for Krafta Doc an "International Art Making Film Festival".
The festival takes place in Glasgow from 27th September - 1st October with additional screenings happening in London and Venice.

More details to follow...

The 6th LOCO London Comedy Festival is on the horizon and I've got onto their Kickstart Your Comedy Career training. As one of the lucky attendees my film What is a Man? will feature in a reel of clips showing in The Atrium at BFI Southbank from 28 April - 7 May.
This is a free little space where the box office used to be near NFT2 so if you're round that way have a looksee for a quick dose of funny.

FEST FIGHT

Film festivals are like buses: you wait for ages then sit down and hope the smell of piss isn't coming from you. Hang on, scratch that. They all arrive at once, that's it.
And here's the proof:
After a sell-out screening at the London Short Film Festival Jump Cut Jeff will next appear at the Athens International Film and Video Festival. That's Athens, Ohio and it happens to be one of the glamorous Oscar qualifying festivals (meaning the award winners here will go into a hat with the possibility of being incorrectly read out at a later date).

Also in our very own Birmingham, England the surprising box of all-sorts that is the Flatpack Film Festival will be showing two of my very short shorts: Clapperboard and What is a Man? Watching them will take you less than two minutes which is a much quicker route to mild disappointment then any Hollywood blockbuster.
  • Jump Cut Jeff at Athens International Film and Video Festival screens in Competition Shorts: 'Behind the Scenes' on Friday 7th April, 1:00pm - tickets free!
  • What is a Man?  will screen in On the Edge on Friday 7th April, 8:30pm
  • Clapperboard will screen in Aural Aesthetics on Sunday 9th April, 1:30 pm

P.S. Anyone who can make both screenings on Friday 7th April will win a years supply of hugs.

Little films on the Big screen

As 2017 rolls into view so does the London Short Film Festival, an annual jamboree of fresh, exciting and oddball work and according to the Guardian Guide, “The Best Short Film Festival in the World”

I've had two films selected which means double the chance to see my work up on the big screen (and if Christmas has taught us anything it's that a double is always better than a single).

What is a Man? is a scribbly little animation showing in WTF: OUTSIDE THE BOX at MOTH CLUB, Tuesday 10th January 2017 at 7pm (I'll also be taking part in the Q & A after the screening).

Jump Cut Jeff features actual actors (and an invisible car) and screens in SURREAL WORLDS at HACKNEY PICTUREHOUSE, Thursday 12th January 2017 at 8:30pm.

What's that, you missed the 2011 SXSW Animated Shorts screening? Yeah, me too. Fortunately the esteemed festival has put together a Vimeo selection to take us back to that innocent and optimistic time. It features my lemony opus Teddy Goldblatt along with dancing dinosaurs and typing boobs, what more could you want?

I'm happy to declare that my latest short film Jump Cut Jeff will be receiving it's official premiere at a special screening at the Rio Cinema on Saturday 10 September 2016 at 12:15pm.

The screening is free and all are welcome (even kids) to attend and heckle if they wish. They'll also be the added bonus of a short film by legendary British animator Bob Godfrey (Roobard and Custard, Henry's Cat).

If you've never been the Rio is a beautiful Art Deco picture palace and it's also one of our key locations which means this is your chance to view it in both colour and black and white without the aid of a degenerative eye disease. It also has a lovely little cafe/bar so you can prepare yourself for this marathon 20 minute screening.

If you can make it drop me a message so I'll know I won't be on my own.
